Lesson Diary

Tuesday 29th November
In my group there is Me, Sophie, Hannah, Brooke and Danielle.
We decided what roles we are going to do within our group. I am doing Advertising Production and Promotion Team; Sophie is going to be the Presenter; Hannah is the Program Controller and News/Sport/Travel speaker, but instead we are going to have it like celebrity news. Danielle is the Producer/Broadcaster assistant.
I am happy with being the Promotion Team/Person and Advertising Production because it is something I am good at and what i would like to do in the future.
I went home and did some re search about what the advertisement and promotion team would focus on whether it be adverts on the broadcast or posters and billboards and in most cases it was a bit of both there was no real relying factor on more than one thing than another which made it clear to me that having both ideas up to excelling standards was vital to get people to know that the radio station existed and that its what they want to listen to.

Tuesday 6th December
Today we decided our running order for our first demo. We decided that the format for this would be Contemporary Hit Radio called XXFM. We decided to call it this because it is different but quite cool at the same time.

Running Order
0.00-00.15 - Jingle
00.15-00.30 - Coming Up - Link
00.30-03.30 - Celeb Gossip
03.30-06.30 - Song 1-Coldplay:Paradise
06.30-07.15 - Advertisement
07.15-08.45 - News/Weather
08.45-09.00 - Jingle
09.00-11.30 - Song 2-Rihanna:We found Love
11.30-12.00 - Competition Introduction
12.00-15.00 - Banter

When me and Danielle were putting the Demo together i thought that having a music break after a few minutes would be good because then you are not rattling on about things and losing interest to the audience. we also thought that having a coming up link early on in the broadcast would make the listeners feel more inclined to pay attention and continue listening because they are wondering how we are going to present what is coming up.
In my spare time i went away and evaluated how our demos to see the similarities and differences between similar stations such as Capital and XXFM and Expert Fm and Gold. I thought this would help me a lot to find suitable adverts that would be attracting attention  but also informing at the same time.

Tuesday 13th December
Today we are coming up with our second demo. We are going to be calling it Expert FM basing it on the fact that elderly people are experienced at life...? We came up with the other running order for this show too. I also did my bit of writing for the advertising part of our show, trying to figure out what adverts that we are having on both radio stations. I think that this is a important part of our radio show because it is one of the main things that attracts the audience to listen more and not get bored of it because it is constantly bringing in new sounds and things that their generation would want to buy, hear or see.

Running Order

Tuesday 10th January
Today we did the final things for the production paper work. Me and Danielle came up with the final design for the logo and Danielle and i made them on Photoshop. I then finished creating the scripts for the advertisements in both radio demos and double checking them to make sure there were no mistakes.  Danielle seemed very keen about putting it all together at the end so i said that i would collect it all and she would present it which we were both happy with.

Tuesday 17th January
Today we used the voxpops to record 50 words about something we wanted to talk about. I did it talking about how my mum is selling my horse and a few reasons why i think she shouldn't. This was good because it was a fun practical way to learn how to use them ready for when it comes to recording. We also had a worksheet that we went through to give us a bit of a better understanding about the voxpops and what they can and cant do. After we had recorded our 50 words on the voxpop we had to put it on the computer. This was a good way to learn about how to do it in the future when it came to doing it for our demos so then we would know what to do and not get it wrong. I enjoyed the practical lesson because it was all hands on and i felt like i learnt more than  would if we ad t learn from seeing it on a screen.

Tuesday 24th January
Today we used audacity to edit our speech and make it fade into my favourite song. This was fun because like last lesson it was all hands on  and we got to learn as you go. Louise gave us a run through of how unreliable audacity can be which was good because it would have been bad if any of us n the class was to lose our work. Because of this we had o save it all the time just in case.  We had t use You Tube converter to mp3 to get the song we wanted which was something new for me so Hannah helped. On audactity we then edited the music and the speech so it faded together and made it flow and sound more professional . Louise had to help me with this because it was a bit confusing on what all the different symbols mean but now i am pretty sure which is what so then when it comes to using it in the future i will know what i am doing from this lesson.  I am also going to get audacity at home so then i will be able to practise using it more and know more when it comes to next lesson.

Tuesday 31st January
Today we focused on producing our demos for our second 30 second commercial. for this we had to get a script together and get the music for the advert. For the advert i did Harry Potter. i enjoyed doing this becasue it was something different and i could edit it t how i wanted it to sound. Unfortunatly i did not use it in our demo because it was not suited tot he sae audience. Editing it on audacity could sometimes prove difficult because lining up the sound effects with the speech didnt want to play at th esame time. I learnt how to edit thingsa nd make them fade in and out of things so the advert played smoothly.

Tuesday 7th February
Today i completed my radio advert by chekcing for errors in the demo and checking that the sound quality was as good as it could be. Unfortunatly i founsd that some of the recordings were not that good so I went onlin to find a better quality version, which i did so i incorporated it in to my work. I also wanted to make sure that the speech coud be heard well for everyone spo i got someone else to listen to it, they said that it was good and that everything came through clearly. In the end i was proud of my radio advert and thought it completed the aims i wanted for the intended audience.

Tuesday 21st February
Today we were learning about the production elements which make the radio sound good.  We got givena  hand out to complete about the technical quality of the demo and how to make it sound better. This was good beause the even though i had done editing of the advert before i managed to see how to do things quicker and more straight forward. This lesson was also the start of a new assignment , and we got told what we had to do, I am looking foward to the next lesson to begin the demos and make work as good as possible.

Tuesday 28th Feburary
Today I  started ont he links for our demos. I was looking foward to this becasue i enjoy planning with other people, to have everyones ideas toegther. I also enjoyed writing the links and plannig on how we wanted them to sound. I worked with Hannah to do this and i think the link that we recorded of me talking was very effective.
